Last week I was shown two items of interest that really did not surprise me. In fact, I didn’t give it a second thought. The two items were more evidence of the existence of very healthy competition among some of the mortgage field service companies.
Rumor has it that the winner of this competition will gain the coveted recognition of being the worst company in the industry to work for. Although it is just a rumor, I suspect it may be true. The present holder of that recognition has held the title for quite some time now, so others, being jealous, are trying to wrest the title from that longstanding champion.
The first item brought to my attention was a notice that one company sent notice to their field reps stating that they will no longer pay any fee for pictures. The defense given was that “non-payment for pictures has become the industry norm”. You may gather, as I did, from that defensive statement that that company has no intent of setting themselves apart from other companies in the industry. No attempt whatsoever to be slightly more attractive to field reps. Indeed, it appears this company has shown that they intend to be just another frog in the pond.
The second item I received was publication of a notice informing field reps of a new “Penalty Program” used as encouragement for field reps. I will have to check with others more knowledable than myself, but I feel the use of the word “penalty” and the word “encouragement” in the same sentence is counter productive. But then again, I’m just a field rep.
I’m pretty passionate about this business – in fact I still argue that there is a place for the $5 inspection. Waiting while my friend in the hospital had his tests, I spent some time trying to come up with some way to help these fighting contenders. What do they need to win this competition?
I will have to admit that I did not have many ideas. In fact, what I did come up with is pretty lame, but still it’s better than nothing. I figured I might be able to get your help. In fact, your assistance is critical.
Knowing that these companies are probably pretty busy billing their clients, I knew I must make things quick and simple. The best I could do is lean on the old saying “a picture is worth a thousand words”.
I have included a picture that I think will help get the idea across to these companies. If they would implement this idea, I think it would cut down tremendously on the amount of time they have to spend trying to catch flies from their lilly pad. E-mail your rep a copy today!

I failed to mention this earlier in the week; I updated a few items in the business manual and added a couple of new company contacts. The new version is in the member download area. To get your copy of the updated manual, use your email address as user id, and your original purchase receipt number for the password.  Any new purchases made since Tuesday of this week received the new version.

It’s not often that we are called on to secure and trash out a house valued in the neighborhood of $500,000 or so but that’s what we did this morning. On the golf course and just a short drive off the beach.
Unlike yesterday, everything today went without a hitch. Our travel time was one and a half hours each way and we spent about two hours on site. Nothing exciting to talk about – just a routine job.
I have a friend going in for some out-patient procedures tomorrow morning so we contacted our Friday appointments and requested they allow us to come this evening. Both agreed so I will be leaving in just a few moments to take care of those. I will spend most of the day tomorrow with my friend so you can pretty much figure I will be unavailable.
We will be traveling out of town Saturday and Sunday so it looks like there will be no blogging until Monday. I suspect I will have my cell phone with me on Saturday if you need to call.
That’s it for now. Gotta’ go. I just wanted to stay in touch.
