Hi Terry

I have a question for you. I have been doing mortgage field inspections for almost 3yrs now. I am an independent contractor, but I get my work from a property service company. They are now requiring me to carry an insurance plan. I understand why, however, when reading over the subcontractor insurance requirements, I noticed that they (company who supplies me my work) are requiring me to make them an additional insured. Is this normal? It seems like I am paying extra on my plan to insure the company handing me work, who, I would think, has their own insurance policy.........which I would assume I would be an addtional insured on their plan.

Hope you can add some insight to this :) thanks!!!

Love it. I have been in business 17+ years and have seen companies come and go. The best one was the latest. Sought me out, said he needed inspectors in upstate New York. Ok so I find out he is new. Sends inspections go out and do them (have to travel miles up here in farm land) come back to put them in and low and behold can't find some of them. Contact made, oh they were cancelled. No pay. Then find out he works as an contract inspector for the New York area and the company he is working for hasn't paid him so I'm working for nothing. Be careful out there make sure they are reputable. Watch out for Independent Contractors. They can cost your business two of mine were table topping and I lost two big companies because I was the responisble contractor. So take care, be wise, check things out.
