Chargebacks are deductions from inspector’s payments. Chargebacks often are intended as punishment.
Some reasons companies often use chargebacks are:
- company could not contact inspector
- contractor does not return work or return calls in a timely manner
Companies that chargeback at higher amounts than the original fee the inspector would have received state:
- that the inspection had to be reassigned to another inspector at a cost higher than the norm because of a urgency to meet the clients turnaround time
- a chargeback compensates the company for any lost revenue resulting from inspectors late return of results
